AoS5 Rock 'n' Roll 1950s & 60s
Rock and Roll is a genre of popular music that originated and evolved in the United States during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s; it originated from African American styles such as Gospel, jazz, blues and country music.
Some of the main ‘ Rock ‘n’ Roll legends’ were Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and The Beatles.
Rock and Roll had a distinctive 4/4 time signature with the emphasis of a bass / snare drum played on the second and fourth beat.
The primary instruments of the early Rock ‘n’ Roll were electric guitar, electric bass guitar / double bass, piano, drum kit, and sometimes a saxophone was used.
The Beatles were rooted in skiffle music and 1950s rock and roll. They later experimented with several other musical styles, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelic and hard rock.
The Beach Boys were one of the most influential acts of the rock era. They combined their affinities for jazz- based vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and black R&B to create their unique sound.
